Connecting
with the past…
Ulinbawn
has seen numerous occupants over the years, with little apparent connection
between them…. some of them we cannot even name.
But
each occupant asserts their individual connection to the house and their share of its history.
Opening
doors….
…to
live in a heritage house is to have an access to the past, to stories and to
everyday happenings long forgotten…about how those former dwellers once lived
and what shaped their lives..
..it
is not our past that we touch, these people have no relationship to us except
to have also occupied this common space between these walls and to have also
taken pleasure in this garden - but we acknowledge their unique stories and
feel the past touching the present as a bridge between two shores.
This
house has survived bushfires, termites, neglect and renovations whereas other
places have not and their ability to engage us has been lost.

the past is another place altogether.
