Yeomans Jr lived with his
uncle at Ulinbawn in the 1890s / 1900s. At this time the Zig
Zag railway had closed and the railway had been
relocated into a deep cutting approaching a narrow tunnel in the gully below Ulinbawn.

how we children used to poke them on gum sticks and hand them up as the trains

it
was a pretty sight at night to see the trains, two engines in front and
sometimes a pusher at the tail, full head of steam in the deep cutting before
the tunnel the open fireboxes reflecting the steam and clouds of smoke from
the smoke stacks then complete darkness and silence after entering the tunnel
